Often, they have always been depicted as knitted sweaters for the winter season. It wasn’t until recent years when they became commercialised for the magical time of year.
History Of Christmas Jumpers
Hollywood stars helped popularise Christmas jumpers during the 60s, 70s, and 80s, due to various TV personalities (such as Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Ingrid Bergman, and Timmy Mallet, Noel Edmonds) wearing them when appearing on television specials.
With celebrities wearing these bright, colourful, and bold jumpers, it wasn’t long before others followed and began choosing their beloved garment to wear on Christmas.
As with anything, the trend did eventually become unpopular during the 1990s and 2000s. It wasn’t until 2010 when businesses saw a miraculous turnaround in sales. Following on from the popularity, Christmas Jumper Day was launched in 2012, a popular annual event that raises money and awareness for the Save the Children charity.
